Here are some fantastic excerpts from Get America Back To Work. These tips, and more, are available in the full book.

  1. 1) If you are employed and posting your resume online make your name and current employer confidential as MOST employers have access to the resume job boards and what do say to your boss or Human Resources when they locate your resume? Avoid the situation by keeping it "CONFIDENTIAL".
  2. 2) When sending your resume to a company that has an opening who should you send the resume to? Well the person that has the need would be the most appropriate, that would mean your potential new boss. The reason is that you are touching the person that truly has the OPENING and Human Resources could put your resume in a pile of your competitors. Set yourself apart.
  3. 3)When leaving the interview ask 2 questions:
  4. 1) How did I compare to the other candidates that you have interviewed?
  5. 2) What is the next step?
  6. By asking these closing questions you will show you want the position plus you will reinforce the positive items that the hiring authority has gained from the interview about you. This will get you closer to an offer.
  7. 4) Thank you, sending a thank you note ( hand written) or emailed version is a must. This will allow you to address areas that came up in the interview that you needed time to think about, reinforce your desire for the position and set yourself apart from your competitors for the positions as most people that interview do not send thank you notes. Every little bit helps, and we have seen people get an offer from just a note - so just do it.
